The Ballet Folklorico offers the students of Willowcreek Middle School a unique opportunity focusing on cultural preservation, diversity, and an overall appreciation for the arts. Students of all ethnic backgrounds will be engaged in traditional Mexican folk dance and will learn and perform numerous dance forms from the differing regions of Mexico. We would like to expand and offer classes to our entire community of students from the ages of 5 through 18. Effects of this program will be seen far beyond the individuals involved. We will perform for the schools in our corporation and provide educational experiences surrounding cultural diversity. Due to our growing diverse population, it is important that culture be preserved and shared so students are able to appreciate and celebrate the differences in themselves and others. We have begun the group with 15 members who are receiving training but are now in need of costumes.
