Nativity Elementary: Building an Igloo and Catholic Schools Week

By: Nativity of Our Savior School Last Updated: January 14, 2011

Nativity-Elementary-Igloo-5Nativity of Our Savior Elementary School has great things going on, with their students and staff!

Our third grade class, led by teacher Mrs. Mary Stephenson, is having a weekly economics curriculum presented by Annetta Jones from Purdue University Extension. It is entitled “Captain Cash” and is hosted on Thursdays, from 12:15 to 1:15 pm.

Our kindergarten class, led by teacher Mrs. Vicki Crockett and aide Mrs. Joyce Sanchez, is building a milk jug igloo, along with the winter unit they are in. The Nativity community has been sending in empty milk jugs for the past 2 weeks. So far, 224 jugs have been used and the sides are now completed. Students take books inside, using the igloo as a reading nook. The hope is to have enough jugs by Monday to make the roof and front entrance.

Nativity-Elementary-Igloo-1The school will be celebrating Catholic Schools’ Week from January 30 to February 5. Like other Catholic schools around the nation, we are following the “A+ for Education” theme by enjoying special activities and thanking our community by doing service projects. A magician show will be held Friday morning for the whole school, while fifth through eighth grades will go to Andrean on Thursday for Mass.
