Michigan City Vector Control Celebrates Earth Day by Honoring Progress and Promoting Community Partnership

By: City of Michigan City Last Updated: April 22, 2025

On this Earth Day, the Michigan City Vector Control Department is proud to recognize the collective strides made toward creating a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable community. As stewards of public health and the environment, the department continues to work diligently to reduce vector-borne risks while promoting environmental awareness and action throughout the city.

Over the past 3 months, the department has:

“Our team is dedicated year-round to protecting the health and well-being of Michigan City residents,” said Vector Control Director Brett Kelley, Sr. “Earth Day gives us a special opportunity to reflect on our shared responsibility to safeguard the environment—not just for today, but for generations to come.”

The department also applauds the hard work and commitment of its field staff—public servants who work behind the scenes in all kinds of weather to monitor, treat, and respond to potential safety hazards.

As Michigan City celebrates Earth Day, the Vector Control Department encourages all residents to take small, meaningful steps toward a healthier environment:

“Environmental stewardship is a team effort,” added Vector Control Officer Charles Glancy. “We can all play a part in creating a cleaner, healthier Michigan City.”
