IU Northwest to host 30th annual forum on child abuse and neglect

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. For the last three decades, the Indiana University Northwest School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) has been a leader in creating awareness about issues of domestic violence and developing practical solutions.

As a reminder, SPEA’s 30th Annual Forum on Child Abuse and Neglect continues to take place this month. I’d like to invite you to cover one of the remaining sessions and look forward to hearing from you.

• Oct. 16, 9 to 10:30 a.m. – “Implicit Bias and Institutional Racism: Making the Connection,” led by Brenda Graves-Croom, Joann Price, Jená Bellezza, Naara Olivero, and Anthony McDonald. To register, visit go.iu.edu/3j3K
  • This workshop will review how implicit bias manifests itself within institutions and how it may contribute to institutional/structural racism when left unchecked. Participants will address the importance of educating justice, child welfare, education, and health/mental health colleagues on implicit bias and how to operationalize awareness to change the culture, policies, practices and procedures of agencies and offices.
