Act of Kindness by Portage Tri Kappa Benefits Gabriel’s Horn Shelter in 2016

Celebrating the theme of kindness during Tri Kappa Week (Feb. 21-27), the Portage Zeta Mu Chapter of Tri Kappa sorority, a philanthropic organization, presented a $500.00 check to Gabriel's Horn Homeless Shelter on Thursday, February 25th. The donation, received by Gabriel's Horn Executive Director, Mignon Kennedy, will go toward the building of a new roof, for which the shelter has been seeking funds.
Portage Tri Kappa President, Barbara Niemcewicz, commented: "When we learned that Gabriel's Horn, a wonderful organization providing shelter and basic necessities for homeless single women and mothers with children, was raising funds for a much-needed new roof, Portage Zeta Mu had to answer the call and we hope others in the community will follow suit."
When asked what else is on Gabriel's Horn wish list, Ms. Kennedy replied: " We really are in need of bathroom tissue and cleaning products, and on an ongoing basis also needed are donations of laundry and dish soaps, paper towels, diapers, and gas cards--for women to get to job interviews work, school, and medical appointments. And these items can be delivered to the shelter, located at 792 McCool Road, bordering Portage, in Valparaiso."
For over 49 years, Portage Tri Kappa has continued to serve the greater Portage community through service projects, and by means of fundraising efforts, has donated monies in the areas of charity, culture, and education. The Portage Zeta Mu Chapter of Tri Kappa is comprised of 28 dedicated women, volunteering to enthusiastically and proudly serve the Portage community.
