Saturday Night Love Features Minister Timothy Wright III

By: First Presbyterian Church of Portage Last Updated: December 2, 2013

Timothy-Wright-IIICome hear our Guest Preacher, Minister Timothy Wright III, on Saturday, December 7th, 4:30 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Portage. Our special guest has quite the story to tell!

Born and raised in Compton, CA, although being shot at and stabbed, and a contract placed on his life by a Compton gang during high school, he survived the tough streets, and obtained a football scholarship from Claremont Men’s College in 1977 and then a Juris Doctorate from UCLA School of Law in 1983.

During Law School he met and befriended Congressman, Harold Washington, whom years later became the first African American Mayor of Chicago. After representing Mayor Washington, as an outside counsel, and securing several high profile legal victories for the Mayor, Timothy Wright was called to join Mayor Washington’s staff as assistant to the Chief of Staff, the Special Counsel to the Mayor, Director of Intergovernmental Affairs and ultimately the first African American Commissioner of the Department of Economic Development.

After many years of service in the city of Chicago, Timothy Wright received a call that would change his life. In 1991, a young Governor from Arkansas had heard of the good work that Timothy was doing in Chicago and he invited him to be on his staff as he was going to run for the presidency of the United States. The name of that governor was Bill Clinton.

After the election, Timothy Wright served President Clinton as his first Director of Domestic Policy. Also during that time Timothy Wright joined an international campaign that successfully lobbied and negotiated for the release of Nelson Mandela from Robben’s Island.

His message of Hope on Saturday December 7th will focus on the theme, ‘With God All Things Are Possible”

There will be food and conversation with Dr. Wright after the service. For more information contact Pastor Tim Reyna at (219) 617-0668 or pastor@fpcportage.org
