Y-Care Program Learns About National Lakeshore Wildlife

Portage Township YMCA Y-Care Program take a field trip to the Douglas Center in Gary, IN during Spring Break Camp. During their educational, adventurous day, they took a hike on one of the trails as well as learned about plants and animals that live and grow at IN National Lakeshore.

The Douglas Center has been a hub for education programming throughout the school year during its 23 years of operation. This summer marks a return of full-service activities at the center year-round. The Douglas Center will serve not only as a place for environmental education, but also as “western visitor center” for the entire Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore which extends from Gary to Michigan City.
