On November 15, the Portage Township YMCA held 2 clinics presented by Rhame and Elwood discussing the importance of having a will, what happens if you don’t have one, what is involved in making a will in addition to many current tax issues that are presented with or without a will. Between the 2 clinics, there were 25 participants who benefited from this information.
Amber Morris, who attended with her mother, felt that she learned a lot at the seminar. “It brought to light certain issues that are not often discussed with family members,” Morris said. Estate planning, gift annuities and trusts are not something a family discusses in an everyday conversation. The importance having assets in order before we pass helps make planning for the entire family much easier.
The group left with a better understanding of why it is so important to have a will created. The YMCA is planning on scheduling more of these types of events, which are open to the public, in order to meet the needs of our community.
