Willowcreek Science Students Have Special Opportunity

Willowcreek-Middle-SchoolThis year Willowcreek Middle School 7th and 8th grade Honors Science students have the opportunity to participate in exciting and enriching science activities. These activities are a part of an EPA grant titled “Building Bridges for Environmental Stewardship: Schools, University and Community Collectively Embracing the Health of a Local Watershed.” As a part of this grant, students will be performing activities both in the classroom and out in the field. We will be working alongside students from Valparaiso University. The investigations that students will perform are integrated into the science curriculum and are a valuable part of their education.

The first field activity in which students will participate is the Alliance for the Great Lakes Coastal Cleanup. Students will travel to West Beach on September 17th and spend the afternoon participating in this international beach cleanup event. They will also visit Imagination Glen several times during the school year to perform tests on Salt Creek. The results of these tests will be included in studies that are currently being performed on our Great Lakes watershed.
