A recent partnership with Project Northwest Indiana and Chicago based New Balance means one thing for the members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County: new shoes for the new school year.
After brainstorming ways to help the children in our community, Project Northwest Indiana didn’t take long to identify the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County as the perfect recipient. After identifying that many kids come to the club with inadequate shoes that are either too big, too small or too warn, the Soles Bless Souls program began to take shape.
Cliff Morgan of Chesterton’s Wachs Financial firm had previously worked for New Balance while a college student in Chicago and offered to see if New Balance would drastically cut the price of shoes for the project. New Balance agreed to provide shoes at little over cost, which will allow the Soles Bless Souls initiative to provide new shoes to 500 Boys & Girls Club members in Porter County in time for the start of the new school year.
“But we need help doing this,” said Ben Polhemus of Project Northwest Indiana. “It is going to cost approximately $15 per pair of shoes and we need your help in making this project a success. We have begun raising money and are looking for both businesses and individuals who are interested in sponsoring a pair of shoes.”
For more information or to make your tax deductibe donation to the Soles Bless Souls program, call Polhemus at 574-249-9036 or visit Project Northwest Indiana on facebook to make an online donation. Portage Resale Shop is also accepting donations.
