Marquette 60, Lake Station 57 (Boys Basketball)
The Marquette Catholic High School boys basketball team pulled out a 60-57 victory in Lake Station Friday night. Marquette also won the JV contest, 70-24.
North Newton 46, Marquette 32 (Girls Basketball)
Marquette fought valiantly, but was not able to pull out a home victory on Senior Night Friday, falling to North Newton. The Blazers honored the careers of seniors Dakota Kaplan and Colleen Falk.
Marquette returns to action on Tuesday, February 4 when they travel to La Crosse. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
Kankakee Valley 61, Rensselaer 38 (Girls Basketball)
Bethany Jansma led Kankakee Valley with 25 points and Lauren Stokes added 14 for the Kougars as they improved to 12-5 on the season.
Rensselaer won the junior varsity game, 23-19.
La Porte 55, John Glenn 39 (Girls Basketball)
Jaclyn Heath had 24 points on 9-of-19 shooting to lead La Porte to the home win on Friday. Kelsey Gushrowski added 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting for the Slicers.
Gushrowski and Nicole Konieczny each had seven rebounds for La Porte (17-1).
Michigan City 74, Portage 56 (Boys Basketball)
Luke Kizer had 22 points to lead Portage in a road loss Friday night. Jordan Collazo (9 points) and David Clegg (8 points, 7 rebounds) also contributed for the Indians.
Michigan City also won the JV game despite eight points from Portage's Canaan Cooper.
Portage 32, Griffith 23 (Girls Basketball)
The Lady Indians won on Friday behind a game-high 12 points from Kaitlin Doud. A balanced scoring effort helped Portage win the JV game as well, 31-10.
Calumet Sectional (Wrestling)
Portage win the sectional in Gary on Saturday, qualifying all 14 wrestlers to regional and boasting nine individual champions.
Miguel Prado, Gaige Torres, John Duqua, Steven Lawrence, Davon Gonzalez, Iszak Morgan, Darren Svitko, Matt Hendrix and Travis Williams all finished first for the Indians.
Louis Escobedo, Ismal Cornejo, Nic Chandler and Gio Giavanni finished third while Tim Giensmore placed fourth for Portage.
