Wagner Excels Academically, Socially

Amaya-WagnerThe goal at Myers Elementary School is to help prepare students to become respectful, productive citizens who view learning as a lifelong process. Amaya Wagner is the embodiment of that goal.

"Amaya is a great girl who has an infectious personality, a kind heart and tremendous academic abilities," Myers Principal Jeff King said. "These characteristics exemplify what we're all about at Myers and what we desire all of our students to become."

Amaya is a fifth-grade student who loves playing soccer, skating and listening to music. She has been playing NWI United Travel soccer for three years and is a goalie. She has a goal of one day becoming a professional soccer player. Her favorite singers are Lady Gaga and Adele. Amaya loves math and art. Although she loves attending Myers and thinks all of the staff is "so nice", she is really looking forward to moving on to middle school next year so she can change classes and see some of her friends from other schools more often.

Amaya's dad, Michael Wagner, said she is a very outgoing and friendly girl who would help anyone. When asked what Amaya is like at home, he said, "She is wonderful. Always playing with her brothers and helping around the house. She is always in a good mood."

Amaya is an amazing student because she excels academically as well as exemplifies the goals and ideals of the Myers community. It is a rare occasion when a student inspires not only a teacher but also an entire school community. This young girl does just that. Amaya is an enthusiastic student and person who spreads joy in her family as well as those around her. She is a valuable member of the Myers family and Portage Township Schools.

The Portage Parent Network, a branch of the Kiwanis Club of Portage, is working with each school to recognize and honor these exceptional students in this weekly spotlight called the Kiwanis Student Spotlight.
