The Utility Field Services Division (FSD) for Valparaiso City Services (VCS) will begin a scheduled
maintenance program for unidirectional flushing of water mains on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
Unidirectional flushing is an important maintenance practice to improve overall water quality and sustain
the integrity of the water distribution system.
This maintenance will be performed across the south side of Valparaiso, with Glendale
Boulevard/Evans Avenue/Harrison Boulevard as approximate boundary lines. Flushing operations will
occur between the hours of 7:00 am and 4:00 pm, with a few locations being completed during
overnight hours. FSD staff will notify customers of overnight flushing operations as needed. The
maintenance program will take approximately 10 weeks to complete.
VCS regrets any inconvenience the flushing program may cause. However, the City and its customers
benefit from the maintenance of water quality and fire protection capability.
If your home or business is located in the south side maintenance area:
- In the event you experience discolored water during flushing operations, please run cold
- water in the bathtub for five to 10 minutes.
