Valparaiso Community School Corporation Seeking Mechanic

valpo-community-schoolsESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Examines vehicle and discussed with head mechanic or operator the nature and extent of damage or malfunction. Plans work procedures
Performs routine service and maintenance on gas and diesel buses.
Performs system repairs on brakes, transmissions, electric systems, cooling systems, and fuel systems on all vehicles normally maintained by the transportation department.
Maintains and repairs to shop equipment
Assist other mechanics and maintains harmonious relationship with drivers and other corporation employees.
Repairs and maintains vehicle chassis, interior and exterior of vehicles.
Performs inspections per Indiana State Police guidelines for vehicles licensed to transport students.
Keeps and maintains records for all service and work performed
Assists in the maintenance of a parts and supply inventory.
Maintains shop cleanliness.
Practices safe work habits and procedures.
Must have good driving record

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
A.S.E. certification preferred with a minimum of three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with other employees in the organization.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:
Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license. A CDL (Commercial driver’s license) is required. The successful applicant for this position is expected to obtain the CDL within six (6) months of employment. Must acquire all school bus endorsements required to transport students.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The Employee must be able to demonstrate an operating knowledge of the equipment currently in use in the transportation department and demonstrate a willingness to learn the operation of new equipment added to the department from time to time.
