VALPARAISO, IN – United Way of Porter County Women United raised $10,000 to support PACT Recovery Connection program.

Raised through the group’s annual Bunco Bash event, the donation will go to support Recovery Connection’s holistic approach to helping people recover from addiction. Connection services encompass peer mentoring, family support groups, life-skills training and recovery-safe social activities.

“If you’re serious about recovery, you have to develop a new community,” said Kim Olesker, president and CEO of United Way of Porter County. “Our partnership with Recovery Connection helps facilitate this new community through social interaction and building new skillsets.”

Besides financial support, Women United members volunteer on Monday nights to provide social activities and skills classes to women at Recovery Connection. Class topics include financial literacy, cooking skills, women’s health, game nights and crafting activities.

“The group aims to provide a support network for women in recovery so they know they are not alone,” said Carrie Higgins, Women United Steering Committee member and clinical assistant professor at Purdue University Northwest. “I find it so rewarding to serve these women. I would love for more women to join our efforts as we work to build a stronger community.”
