The United Way of Porter County will host a pledge ceremony for the Porter County Partnership AmeriCorps Members to be sworn in for a year of service. The Porter County Partnership AmeriCorps Members serve Lake, La Porte, Starke, and Porter Counties. AmeriCorps Members receive training and provide service in the areas of tutoring, mentoring, volunteer recruitment, disaster service, career planning, and provide research and support for schools and non-profit agencies throughout northwest Indiana.
The AmeriCorps Pledge Ceremony will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (CDT) December 9, 2010 in the United Way of Porter County Conference room. Featured speakers include Sharon Kish, United Way of Porter County President; Melissa Thompson of Taltree Arboretum; and Shree Walker, AmeriCorps member serving at Portage High School. Valparaiso Mayor Jon Costas will lead the pledge for the AmeriCorps Members. The ceremony will be followed by a reception with light refreshments.
