Dr. Kamaljeet Girn of the Northshore Health Center in Portage has been awarded the Smoke-Free Champion Award by Anthem Medicaid. The award, given to health care providers in Indiana, recognizes a physician who demonstrates an exemplary effort for reducing and preventing smoking in the state.

Portage welcomed in a new era of healthcare on Tuesday with the customary blessing and ribbon cutting dedication at the new Franciscan WorkingWell and ExpressCare facility on Willowcreek Road.

On Thursday May 1, Woodland Park was the location for the 2014 Senior Health Fair. Brought to the public by the Mayor's Senior Advisory Committee, the health fair had lots of great information to offer to seniors in the area.

But with every pro there is a con. As we age, our bodies change and the risk factors to develop diseases and health complications rise. Cardiovascular disease, specifically, is on the rise and with that the potential creation of heart valve problems.

Seven seniors from Rittenhouse Senior Living of Portage were presented the "Honored Senior" award Wednesday during the Porter County Fair.

Associates of the Portage Hospital Women's Center were "tickled pink" on Saturday morning as local women came to receive their annual mammogram and enjoy the many amenities during "Pink at Portage."
8. Porter-Starke Services Foundation Hosts Worthwhile Symposium
It was a gorgeous morning that welcomed guests to Valparaiso University's Harre Union the gathered for Porter-Starke Services Foundation's 5th Annual Living Health, Balance and Hope Symposium.

Over six years ago, the face of healthcare in Porter County began to change, when Jonathan Nalli stepped into the role as CEO of Porter Health Care System. On January 30, 2014, employees of the health care system gathered at Porter Regional Hospital to share their good wishes and good byes, as Nalli makes the move to St. Vincent Health in Indianapolis.
10. New Health at Work Clinic Opens at Portage Hospital
A new addition was welcomed at Porter Health Care System's Portage Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. Health at Work, a new occupational and corporate health clinic, has been open and in use since November 17, 2014. It is the second Health at Work clinic and it mirrors the original clinic located in Valparaiso on La Porte Avenue.
