Gloria Dei Lutheran Hispanic Mission invites you to participate in this year's Via Crucis (or Way of the Cross), a one-mile procession through the streets of Valparaiso on Good Friday. The Via Crucis is a walking service, in which we hear the story of Christ's passion read from God's Word, we pray for our community, our church family, and our families, and ourselves, and we sing hymns and reflect on what Jesus did for us through his sacrificial death on the cross. Gloria Dei actors will play the parts of Jesus Christ, his mother Mary, the disciples, Simon of Cyrene, Pontius Pilate, Roman soldiers and townspeople of Jerusalem. Musicians from Gloria Dei Mission and from area Lutheran churches will lead the singing. The service is bilingual, with readings and songs in English and in Spanish.
Please join Gloria Dei's Via Crucis this year on Friday, April 22, 2011, beginning at 4 pm.
We will gather at Heritage Lutheran Church, 308 Washington Street, to begin our pilgrimage and service of songs, hymns, readings, and meditation. If walking is a challenge, you are invited to ride the Gloria Dei mini-bus which will follow the procession, or you may meet the group at the Valparaiso University intermural athletic field on Freeman Street near the Law School for the crucifixion scene, at about 5 pm. After the Via Crucis, transportation back to Heritage Lutheran Church will be available.
All are welcome to join us to meditate on Christ's love and sacrifice for us.
If you would like more information, you are invited to call Pastor Tomas Angon , (219) 246-8811 Nortthwest Indiana Lutheran Hispanic Mission Society.
