The United Way of Porter County AmeriCorps Program Now Recruiting AmeriCorps Host Site and Members for Summer 2015

unitedway portercountyAmeriCorps is an opportunity to get things done in Northwest Indiana, while making a big difference in your life and in the lives of those around you. It is a chance to apply your skills and ideals toward helping others and meeting critical needs in Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties. As an AmeriCorps member, you will gain new skills and experiences including recruiting/managing volunteers and assisting with summer programming. You will also find the tremendous satisfaction that comes from helping others. As a host site, you will mentor an AmeriCorps member who will recruit volunteers to expand the capacity of your organization. AmeriCorps members will also help with summer programming needs.

Summer 300 hour AmeriCorps positions start late May and end no later than August 10th, 2015.

Host sites must be able to provide 40 hours a week of service for 8 weeks during the summer. All sites must be non-profit organizations. There is an agency cost share for each program that hosts an AmeriCorps member.

Summer AmeriCorps members receive a stipend of $2,000. In addition to the stipend, all members who successfully complete their term of service receive an Eli Segal Education Award of $1,195. The education award can be used to pay for current/future educational expenses or to pay back qualified student loan debt. AmeriCorps members with qualifying student loans are eligible for student loan deferment during their term of service.
