The Plan: NIRPC’s Plan Wins Burnham Award

NirpcGBLogocopyThe American Planning Association is awarding the prestigious Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan to the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) in 2013.

Named after America's most famous planner, this year the award recognizes the NIRPC's 2040 Comprehensive Regional Plan for how it created a vision for sustainable growth across a group of counties-Lake, Porter and La Porte. "Instead of every city, town and county trying to 'go it alone,' collaboration at the regional level created efficiencies and facilitated cooperation-saving time and money," said Geof Benson, NIRPC Executive Board Chairman.

According to Ann C. Bagley, 2013 APA Awards Jury chair, the APA was also impressed that "during each step of the 2040 CRP, NIRPC engaged citizens and stakeholders to gather input and ensure that the recommendations identified in the plan were realistic and implementable."
