The Memorial Opera House Presents Their Production of A Christmas Story

The Production of A Christmas Story at the Memorial Opera House was an evening of joy, laughter, and excellent teamwork as the cast prepared for this winter classic. The evening began with an introduction of the cast and was followed by rehearsal. The incredible performances by the young actors captured everyone’s attention. Each Christmas, this story is seen on television by many. There was something very special, however, about seeing it live. The message of the story is its most powerful characteristic, as it remains timeless because it continues to speak to families and connect communities together.

Given the fact that its upcoming shows are sold-out, the popular Christmas classic will be able to connect even more communities. The Marketing Director at the Memorial Opera House, Amanda Dietrich, further elaborated on the details.

“We have sold out tickets! The opening night is November 24th and it will run for 3 weekends,” Dietrich explained. “The Memorial Opera House does amazing shows. The show is a Northwest Indiana staple. It is the perfect show.”

Many know A Christmas Story as a holiday classic, but for the Northwest Indiana community this tale holds a special place in a lot of people’s hearts. Dietrich explained why it is so particularly special to The Region.

“Everybody has grown up knowing this story,” Dietrich said. “I love how it takes place in Hammond. It is a Northwest Indiana story. I love that so much. I have always held this story a little bit closer to my heart because of that.”

The role of the “Mother” was played by Leann Wright who volunteers at the Memorial Opera House. Wright explained how the community is also very significant to this play.

“The mission of The Memorial Opera House and the theme of this play meld well together. It is really about creating community,” Wright spoke.

Communities that stick together are like families. The true meaning of family was seen on stage as the actors/actresses got into their respective roles.

On-stage and off-stage, this cast worked as a family. The “Old Man/Dad” was played by Douglas DeLaughter who is also a volunteer at the Memorial Opera House. DeLaughter shared his memories of performing on stage over the years and what it has meant to him.

“I have done a lot of community theater over the years,” DeLaughter explained. “The Memorial Opera House has a really close family kind of feel to it. It is really a great community to be a part of. You feel like this is your second home.”

At the Memorial Opera House, the cast of A Christmas Story performed the play perfectly. This perfection came because they truly exemplified the closeness of a real family. The live performance by this exceptionally talented cast fully embodied the true meaning of this story, and families and communities will continue to grow strong as its timeless message continues to be shared.
