The Juniors continue Zao Island’s exciting Summer Concert Series

Families and friends were able to come together at Zao Island on Thursday night to enjoy summer activities such as mini-golf, batting cages, and more as well as live music performed by the acoustic guitar duo, The Juniors. The Juniors are the first of four concerts in the August leg of Zao Island’s 2021 Summer Concert series.

“We started this specific group two years ago. We play out just about every weekend or a couple of times a week and it's really fun,” said band member Chris Bolint Jr. “It’s our second time here. We always have a good time. There’s perfect weather for tonight. It's a lot of fun to be back here and play music and entertain too.”

The Juniors began playing music when they were young, and they play a big range of genres and songs from up to 50 years ago.

“We both started when we were little kids. Our parents were friends before we were born, so they were playing, and we grew up into it and just kept going. We're still here today rocking out,” said band member Billy Cox Jr. “We do rock, we do country, we’ll do pop and punk rock. It’s good to hit all of the areas so when we play, we try to appeal to everybody.”

Bolint agreed and explained further how the band does not have a specific target audience but strives to entertain everyone.

“We like entertaining all ages. That’s who we play to. We don’t play to a certain crowd or age group; we try to be able to play to everybody.”

People were able to sit at picnic tables and enjoy Zao Island’s wonderful food and drink options as they were enjoying the music, but some chose to get up and dance. Positive energy and smiles filled the area as people began to dance.

“We've really tried to pick a good setlist overall. We want people to have fun and enjoy the music. Sometimes they just sit there and enjoy it, but when they get up and dance, it makes us feel good, so it makes us play better,” Bolint said.

Zao Island’s outdoor stage allows for community members to be close to the performers and connect with the music on a deeper level. Being able to interact and see the facial expressions of the band while they are performing emphasizes the emotion and mood the music is expressing.

“I feel good about it. I like when we do not only reach out to the crowd musically, but to interact with them, you know it is like a face-to-face conversation or even just close enough to just get a look or anything like that will make the concert much more memorable,” Cox said.
