The Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Its 30th Golf Outing at The Brassie

The Brassie Golf Club in Chesterton welcomed the Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce for their 30th Annual “Spring Swing” event. The morning started off with a light breakfast from the Town & Country Market and refreshments from The Coca Cola Company. Golfers and staff enjoyed sweet treats and fresh bagels along with coffee, water and of course, Sprite and Coca Cola while lunch was packed up by NLMK Indiana. There was also a practice range open for those wanting to get in the swing of things early.

“The reason for this outing is to promote camaraderie for the chamber, our board members and fellow sponsors. With this event, our goal is to make money for the chamber to help those in Greater Portage and to draw new membership,” Mike Sarver, the Treasurer and Golf Committee Chair for the Portage Chamber of Commerce, said.

The Hole-In-One sponsor, Arnell Chevy KIA, provided a 2013 Impala for anyone who successfully completed the challenge. A green Chevy Camaro from Arnell was present at the outing from a proud past winner.

Before beginning, announcements and rules from The Brassie were read off while the enthusiastic golfers waited to take off. Teams spread themselves around the course and tried to make sure they were not keeping others long.

“The Brassie Golf Club, as a chamber member, tries to help out the best that they can with whatever role they take on. We take care of each other and try to do the best for our community as well. Duane does an outstanding job and Jeannie in the kitchen does everything she can to assist in any way she can,” Executive Director of the Portage Chamber Terry Hufford said.

Last year, 42 new members were brought to the Portage Chamber and so many great moves are being made by those dedicated to their community. Working together takes a lot of work, commitment, and sometimes manages a little fun. Creative events and new openings are planned to be scattered all around Portage this summer.

“A lot of great things are going on in Portage. With the opening up of Meijer on the 13th, Texas Roadhouse receiving a lot of great business and feedback, and another organization being built on Ameriplex drive, all of these things enhance the community and the chamber because of the wonderful people who become members; we grow together,” Hufford also said.

When asked what drew one spirited team out to this pleasant golf outing, Rocco Schiralli, President and CEO of Porter-Starke Services, shared a special message.

“As a community mental health center serving Porter and Starke counties, I think it’s always important to be visible in our community, support other businesses, and make them aware of the services we provide in behavioral health care,” Rocco Schiralli said.

Other sponsors for the day included The Ross Group, Northshore Health Centers, Saint Mary’s, Horizon Bank, NIPSCO and Porter Regional Hospital.
