Thanksgiving at the Portage Food Pantry

Portage-Food-Pantry-Thanksgiving-2013-1On Friday, November 22 the Portage Township Food Pantry distributed Thanksgiving grocery carts to 258 families. They also distributed an additional 196 turkeys to families that received their food earlier in the month. It was a rewarding day for the 35+ devoted volunteers that are there weekly to help families that find themselves in need of food. The turkeys were donated by one very caring surgeon from the Surgicenter in Hobart who wishes to remain anonymous. He donated 520 turkeys to us and more to 10 other pantries. We got a new friend in Great Lakes office Furniture who donated a truck and a hard worker. Three workers from the Township came to lend a hand also.

We are so grateful to the overwhelmingly generous people and businesses in Portage. Town and Country, Al's and Big Lots send us donations every week without fail. The JROTC from Portage High School, Town and Country and Walmart are collecting food all the rest of the year. The churches, schools and patrons never let us down. We, the clients and volunteers, are thankful for all of you. God Bless you and have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
