PortageLife.com truly has something for everyone. The amount of good news, photos, articles and videos found on the site seems limitless. Even though I visit the website regularly, I recently went on a search around the site and noticed that there were numerous articles, photos and videos that I did not know were there. All of the items that I came across were interesting, engaging, positive and unique. There are many great things on PortageLife that visitors may not even be aware of. Here are ten of my recommendations that you need to check out if you have not already!
Get in the Game Videos
Each week the PortageLife staff posts a Get in the Game video. If you have not seen them all, I recommend clicking on the videos section and viewing them all. There are some great photos from a wide variety of sports with music in the background. Click here to check out the latest video, featuring Portage High School girls swimming, boys swimming, girls basketball and boys basketball.
PortageLife Events Calendar
PortageLife features a great events calendar that can be used as a reference to find out about upcoming events in the city. I think a lot of people would be surprised to find out how many different events take place within the city of Portage, and the events calendar is a great place to find out about them. It is easy to sort based on city and venue and search the calendar for a particular event.
Photos from Pop Warner Football
Browsing through PortageLife’s photo galleries is an extremely interesting task. Some great shots were taken at several of the Pop Warner Football games, which were held this fall. I’d encourage you to take the time to go through some of the old galleries that you may have missed the first time around. That will give you the chance to see some photos of all of the people doing positive things in the city of Portage, plus you might find a photo of yourself or someone you know that you didn’t even know was there! Videos from the Porter County Career Center
There’s a vault of videos available on the site produced by the students of the Porter County Career Center. The video production class at the PCC is one of the many vocational classes offered to Portage High School students. One of my favorite videos was this tribute to Gary Mitchell, which was made by PHS student Mallorie Oetman.
YMCA Turkey Trot
On Thanksgiving 300 participants competed in the Portage Township YMCA’s annual Turkey Trot. The event was in its 11th year. Check out the coverage of the Turkey Trot! I came across the article while I was looking at a different article on the site thanks to the “related articles” section at the bottom of the page. Many people are unaware that they can continue to read interesting articles by taking a look at some of the related ones that are available on the site.
PHS Pave it Forward Service Projects
One of the joys of the holiday season is seeing people come together and help each other. It is great to see students work on service projects at any time of year, but especially around the holidays. Second mod classes at Portage High School are currently working on service projects as a part of Pave it Forward month. Click here to learn more about this neat story.

During my search of the website, I enjoyed reading through the list of people who have contributed photos and/or articles to the website for several reasons. It was nice to see how many people have contributed. I also found it interesting to search for names of people I know on the list, and then click on their name to read their articles. Mudathon 2011 Photos
While searching through all the photo galleries on the site, one of the other ones that stood out was from the 2011 Mudathon. Since we are stuck in the house due to the frigid temperatures, it is a great time to look back at all the outdoor fun that was had this past summer!
