Team Captain Training Event for Annual Walk to End Homelessness

Sojourner Truth House (STH), a day center for women and children experiencing homelessness and poverty with a community pantry and other related services, will hold Team Captain Training through Facebook Live on Thursday, April 29, at 6:00 pm on the STH Facebook page. A recording of the training will be available on the Facebook page for those unable to attend. The Walk for STH will be held on Saturday, June 12, as both a Live and a Virtual event.

Team Captains are integral, not only to team-building, but to fundraising. The April 29 Facebook Live training will feature an overview of the website and instructions for recruiting and registration, as well as ideas for your team’s participation plans.

Funds raised through the Walk for Sojourner Truth House will help the not-for-profit ministry provide food, clothing, access to medical treatment, job skills programs, intense case management, and a commitment to independent living. The goal is to provide clients with the tools to achieve self-sustainability for themselves and their family.

Sojourner Truth House was founded in 1997 and is sponsored by the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. The ministry served 800 clients in its first year, and today serves an average of 2,100 clients per month, with nearly half of them children. STH operates one of the largest community food pantries in the area for Gary residents, offering food, women’s clothing, toiletries and personal items.

The Walk for Sojourner Truth House will be held on Saturday, June 12, and information can be found at www.walkforsth.org or by contacting Chris Dow at 219-947-8665 or cdow@poorhandmaids.org.
