Tallian appointed ranking Democrat on Pensions and Labor Committee

Also serving as top Democrat on Energy and Environment Committee

State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Portage) has been appointed to serve as Ranking Minority Member of the Senate Pensions and Labor Committee and Senate Energy and Environmental Affairs Committee for the 2011 General Assembly.

Serving as a member of the committee in previous years, Tallian has taken a leading role in the Senate on issues important to working families, including numerous labor issues. The Senate Committee on Pensions and Labor reviews bills on a variety of issues including worker’s compensation, unemployment insurance and police, firefighter and teacher pensions.

As the ranking member of the Energy and Environmental Affairs Committee, Tallian will review legislation on Indiana’s current energy resources, renewable energy, environmental permitting, livestock standards and opportunities for growth in the green jobs sector.

Tallian has also been appointed to the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee which hears testimony on funding requests for the next state budget. Lawmakers will approve a new two-year state budget in 2011.
