College Membership Special-Beginning May 14 all full-time college students with schedule or current college ID will receive a single Primary Plus membership for $31 a month with NO JOINER FEE! Membership must be purchased by July 31, 2012.

Child Care and Development Center (full time child care)- We currently have openings for ages 2-5. The Center fills fast so please ask for a tour by calling Sarah Senart at 219-792-9622. “The Child Care Center is not just a place where parents take their kids while they are at work. We provide a safe environment to nurture the potential of every child through creative learning and teaching techniques lead by caring nurturing teachers and support staff. July special…..$25 off enrollment fee.

Preschool Registration-Preschool education builds knowledge, character development, guidance and encouragement while helping youth realize and develop their full potential. Register for the longest running preschool program in Portage. Portage Township YMCA preschool registration began on March 1, 2012 for the public. Open registration is available with a $25 non-refundable registration fee to hold your spot. So stop by the Y and see what we have to offer.

Summer Membership Special-Beginning June 1, Purchase 4 weeks-$40, 6 weeks-$60, 8 weeks-$80, 10 weeks-$100 or 12 weeks-$120 with NO JOINER FEE! All purchases must be made by July 31, 2012.

Physicals-The Y in partnership with St. Mary Medical Center will be offering school physicals for only $20. July 26 5-8 at the Portage High School West and July 28 8-11 at the Portage High School West.

No Bummer Summer Camp-Camp runs from 9-3 pm with extended care from 6:30 am-6:00 pm. Weekly field trips, daily swimming as well as hot lunches will be provided. Experience laughter, leadership and lifelong memories at summer camp. Weekly and daily rates available. CCDF Vouchers Accepted.

Running Club-Run, Train and make new friends. Wednesday’s 6-7 pm and Thursday’s 6-7 am. Amateur runners meet in the lobby of the YMCA and dress for the weather. All 1 hour runs will be outside unless it is lightening. Participants will be running 3-5 miles with calisthenics and stretching. Must be 14 and up to participate.

Swim Lessons- Get ready to swim! At the Y, we believe the ability to swim is a critical life skill for every child and teen. In swim lessons, we use a variety of fun methods to help kids overcome fears, build confidence in the water and develop skills that last a lifetime. Qualified instructors meet kids at their own level, help families set achievable goals and celebrate all successes. By educating and partnering with parents, we’re determined to prevent drowning in our community.

Bring Your Own Bike-Bike the Rails to Trails with the enthusiastic YMCA members, starting June 11 on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 8-9 am. This program is free and offered to members.

Zumbatomic-Starting June 11 Kids Zumba (Zumbatomic) will be held at 11:15 on Monday’s and Wednesday’s for ages 5-14. The monthly class fees are free for primary plus members, $30 for Primary and $60 for others.

Cheer Camp-Cheer camp will be held in 2 sessions this summer. July 24, 25, 26. Must be registered for July camp by July 20. Camp times will be from 4:30-7:00 for age 4-12. Each camp fee will be $35 for primary plus, $50 for Primary, and $100 for non-members.

Summer Gymnastics- Jump off the beam, flip off the bars, follow your dreams, and reach for the stars. Summer gymnastics is here!!!! As part of the Y’s focus on Youth Development the Y offers gymnastic for ages 2 through there spectacular “Sparklers” gymnastics team. Gain confidence, strength, and balance and learn the importance of teamwork with Y gymnastics. Stop in for details or go to www.ymcaofportage.org.

Grant Family Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser-Aiden Grant came into this world last week with CDH. Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) occurs when the diaphragm fails to fully form, allowing abdominal organs into the chest cavity and preventing lung growth. In an effort to help the family offset the medical expenses the Y will be holding a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser July 21 from 6-9pm. Tickets are available at the Portage Township YMCA for $5.00. Have a great home cooked meal and help the Grant family at the same time!

Porter County Fair-The YMCA will be selling wristband for the Porter County Fair which runs from July 19 thru 28. The wristbands will be $12.00 (a $22.00 value). The wristbands will be good for one day of rides at the fair. You can pick up your wristbands thru July 19 at noon. The YMCA will accept only cash for the bands.

Kindergarten Review Camp-will run from August 6 thru August 10 from 9-11:30 for those entering Kindergarten this year. The camp will review skills and academics needed when entering Kindergarten. A snack will be provided and a minimum of 10 participants must be enrolled to run the camp.
