Stuff the Bus- Applications for Assisting Porter County Students with School Supplies Begins

Applications to help provide school supplies for children in need for grades K-12 attending Porter County schools this fall will be taken at The Salvation Army 799 Capitol Rd. South Haven, Indiana July 19 to 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 and 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Parents or guardians are asked to bring the following: SalvArmyLogoColorSmall

  • A photo ID of adult, parent or guardian who is filling out application for household students.
  • A birth certificate of each child student.
  • Proof of Porter County residence (a current bill with your name and address).

The Salvation Army has been serving Porter County children and young adults in assisting their need for school supplies since 2007 with the desire to help them return to school with the proper tools needed to learn. Over 500 children have been helped since the inception of this program.

The Salvation Army has again partnered with Staples in Valparaiso, Super Kmart in Portage and Kmart in Chesterton to collect the school supplies for children and will have The Salvation Army bus in their parking lots on July 26-31 (Staples 7/26-27, KMart Portage 7/28-29, KMart Chesterton 7/30-31) to accept donations.

If you would like to help a Porter County student by donating you can help in several ways: Send a check to The Salvation Army P.O. Box 828, Portage,IN 46368-0828, bring in supplies or monetary donations to The Salvation Army Corps, 799 Capitol Rd., buy the prepackaged bags prepared by the stores or make up your own bag of school supplies (including backpack) and put in The Salvation Army bus or volunteer to help during collection week and distribution day.
