Students Decorate Rain Barrels

Students-decorate-rain-barrelsWestchester Intermediate School (WIS) participated in a rain barrel contest through the Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County. Schools were invited to participate in decorating a rain barrel for Earth Day. Sharon Darnell, Chesterton Town Council vice president, presented the school with the idea and made a donation of painting supplies to the school.

The voting will take place on April 20 at the Porter County Expo Center. Schools will be allowed to keep their rain barrels and put them to use at their school. They can also choose to have the barrels auctioned off on April 20.

Students painted the barrels as part of “WIS Going Green Week."
