At Jones School, the Core Values of Respect, Honesty, Responsibility, Fairness, and Compassion are stressed. Krystal Sorensen's words and actions are daily examples of these values in action.
"Krystal is a student and friend that all my students look up to and respect. Krystal is a true role model for all of us who are lucky enough to spend our days with her." said Karmo Leuthart, Krystal's teacher. "She is a hard-working student who takes pride in her work. She puts her best effort into every activity or project that we do in the classroom. She has positive relationships with everyone she comes in contact with. From other fifth-graders to kindergartners, from teachers and staff to school visitors, from strangers to her own family (even her brothers), Krystal cares about and respects everyone."
Krystal is a fifth-grade student at Jones who enjoys reading (even after she has reached her AR goal), playing outside, and watching T.V. She enjoys watching "Family Feud," "The Price is Right," "Let's Make a Deal," and "Wheel of Fortune."
Together, she and her family watch "The Biggest Loser" every week. They also watch "Funniest Home Videos" together.
Krystal is involved in choir, drama club, newspaper, and a member of Project Peace. She also does gymnastics at NWI Gymnastic Center. Krystal attends Living Hope Church in Merrillville where she is involved in Bible Quiz. Krystal will be attending the State Bible Meet this weekend.
Krystal's mom, Dee Sorensen, said her daughter is responsible and organized. She knows what she has to do and she gets it done. Sorensen said Krystal likes to help do dishes and she likes to bake. Krystal has two older brothers, a dog named Daisy and a Beta fish named Crusty.
Krystal looks up to her mom because she does a lot for her and she would like to be just like her when she grows up. She said her mom cleans their house, takes care of her when she is sick and takes her places.
