A key fixture in Northwest Indiana since 1959, Strack & Van Til has always believed that providing for the community goes a long way. Through its Apples for the Students program, Strack & Van Til does just that.
Apples for the Students is a program that allows schools to earn free educational equipment by doing what they already do – purchasing groceries week in and week out.
Making it easy to join and earn, participating schools register through Strack & Van Til’s website. Then, members of the school community simply collect Strack & Van Til receipts throughout the participation period.
Every dollar spent at a Strack & Van Til store earns that respective school points. These points are then used to obtain much-needed resources for local schools.
“We have been offering the Apples for the Students program for several years,” said Renee Thometz, marketing manager. “This school year, there are 145 schools currently enrolled in the program.”
Allowing schools and communities to earn as many points as possible, this school year’s collection for Apples for the Students began on September 1, 2023 and runs to March 31, 2024.
“We are in the last month of this school year’s program,” said Thometz. “Make sure you are saving and turning in all receipts for your school during this home stretch!”
A key part of Strack & Van Til’s mission since its inception has been and continues to be a commitment to the community.
“It is important to give back to the communities we serve as we strive to make Northwest Indiana a better place to live,” said Thometz.
In addition to its Apples for the Students program, supporting Northwest Indiana is so immersed in the fabric of Strack & Van Til that employees take civic courses and volunteer as a part of their work.
“As a longstanding fixture in the communities we serve, Strack & Van Til is more than just a grocery store,” said Thometz. “It's a hub for community engagement and support.”
Working with local charities, providing a space for donations, and supporting local fundraisers, Strack & Van Til is involved with many different groups throughout Northwest Indiana.
“Through partnerships with local products, charitable initiatives, organizations, and events, we foster a sense of belonging and connection among customers,” said Thometz.
