As part of the organization’s Checkout Challenge, cashiers at region Strack & Van Til and Town & Country stores are asking customers to round up in support of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana. Through August 23, customers are able to round up their purchase totals to the next dollar with all proceeds raised benefitting Clubs throughout Northwest Indiana.
Boys & Girls Clubs President & CEO Ryan Smiley said the grocery chain, a cornerstone of communities throughout Northwest Indiana and Illinois since 1959, has been a longtime partner of Boys & Girls Clubs.
“Strack & Van Til has been an important partner to Boys & Girls Clubs over the years, and we are extremely grateful for the continued support we’ve received from them,” Smiley said. “They are always finding new and innovative ways to support our organization and our Club kids.”
The Round Up Checkout Challenge initiative has proven to be more than an avenue to support local non-profit agencies financially. The Checkout Challenge has helped to spread awareness of the organizations supported by this effort, including Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana.
“As a customer of Strack & Van Til Stores, I have heard consumers ask cashiers about organizations the Checkout Challenge is supporting. This initiative is part of the grocery chain’s culture. Their employees truly learn about supported organizations and are happy to share how these non-profits make our communities better for all,” Boys & Girls Clubs Vice President of Philanthropy Alison Martin said. “Their employee team makes the Round Up CheckOut Challenge very successful for Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana, and we appreciate their involvement in supporting our Club kids.”
In support of the Strack & Van Til and Town & Country teams, Boys & Girls Clubs has turned the Checkout Challenge into a fun and friendly competition. The organization will award prizes to the top three cashiers who encourage customers to “round up” the most.
“These incentives are more of a way to thank the employees who work to ensure Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana’s Checkout Challenge timeframe is successful for kids. This is just our small way of letting the cashiers know how much we appreciate their investment in helping youth on their journey toward great futures,” Smiley said.
