Stone Avenue Construction Update

The City of Portage recognizes the flooding and stormwater challenges that residents of Southwest Portage have experienced. In 2009, the City instituted a Stormwater Utility Fee, which created a dedicated funding source for managing and treating stormwater. The Stone Avenue Drainage Improvement project is the first large scale project that will utilize funds from the newly initiated Portage Stormwater fee. Dyer Construction was the low bidder for the Stone Ave project as well as for the new water main that is being installed by IAWC along Stone Ave. stone-ave-map-big

The road will be closed to all traffic, except local traffic, on or after June 21st, just east of Christy St to just east of Wood St. Signs will be up at both ends of the road, and a detour path will be marked. “We’d rather people go around,” stated Dan Komenda, Portage’s Project Manager. The project entails the removal of trees along Stone Ave and the road will be reduced to one lane, with traffic stopped completely at times in order to remove big trees, a safety measure for the residents of Portage.
