Staff at Northwest Health pay it forward

Last week, the Northwest Health hospitals kicked-off the holiday season by thanking their employees by gifting them with a holiday turkey to enjoy with their families. Leaders from the health system greeted employees as they drove through to receive one of the more than 2,500 turkeys from the health system.

In addition, some staff members chose to pay it forward. “More than 600 employees from across our health system asked us to donate their turkeys to those in need,” said James Leonard, D.O., FACEP, Chief Executive Officer at Northwest Health – Porter. “It was our pleasure to deliver their turkeys to organizations that support families in need, ensuring more people will have a delicious holiday meal this year.”

As a result or the staff’s generosity, 19 local food banks and other charities throughout Porter, La Porte and Starke Counties received enough frozen turkeys to serve a total of 610 families.
