Saint Mary Catholic Community School is bringing back the group counseling program started last year for its junior high students.
“This year, we are fortunate to expand our program to include a second counselor,” said assistant principal, Mrs. Lisa Hughes.
Students in each homeroom will meet monthly with counselors from Crown Counseling via Google Meet to discuss a variety of issues faced by students, particularly those resulting from COVID-19. After the first session, students said that they were glad that the counseling resumed. The counselors helped the students identify their stressors and how these stressors manifest themselves both emotionally and physically.
Several students commented that they had not realized they were feeling stress nor how it was influencing their behaviors and relationships. Finally, the counselors provided students with several coping mechanisms, including practicing gratitude and developing good habits to improve their physical health.
