Spring Out to Sunset Kite Festival Offers Family Fun

Spring-Out-to-Sunset-KitesResidents of Northwest Indiana are used to enduring long, cold winters. That usually makes spring, and the warm weather that comes with it, a welcome change.

Every year, Porter County Parks and Recreation celebrates this seasonal transformation and the approach of summer with Spring Out to Sunset Kite Festival.

The event takes place on May 18 from 10 am to 3 pm at Sunset Hill Farm County Park in Valparaiso, and is geared toward family friendly activities such as flying kites, wagon rides, wellness activities, and children’s activities.

Porter County Parks and Recreation Marketing and Communications Director Geri Rose along with Event Coordinator Charmayne Guch are the lead organizer’s for this year’s event, and said the goal was to promote families getting outdoors and spending time together.

Spring Out to Sunset has grown each year since it began,” Guch said. “This year, we are offering an even wider variety of events and are looking forward to a day that is full of fun. Nothing is better than seeing families spending the day at the park enjoying the activities we offer.”

Some of the highlights of Spring Out to Sunset this year will be the 180 GO! Kite Performance Team, the Famous Flying Frisbee Dogs , performance by The Chris and Lou Band, a short play by Chicago Street Theater, Front Porch Music will also be on hand to let everyone try out instruments, the Porter County Animal Shelter will also participate along with the AKC Kennel Club and more.

The Famous Flying Frisbee Dogs will put on a demonstration of impressive tricks with specially trained canines. People are welcome to bring their own dogs to the event as well.
