Spice Up Your Life!

SpicesOver the years, we’ve all become a little more mindful about reading nutritional labels, watching our calorie intake, even cutting out fats – but are we still overlooking something dangerous to our health? According to Time Magazine’s Health Issue, research shows that reducing your sodium intake by 3g per day would be as beneficial to one’s health as “cutting tobacco use in half, lowering one’s body mass index 5%, or taking statin medications to lower cholesterol.”

So how do we flavor our food while avoiding the salt shaker? By turning to flavorful herbs and putting the spice back in your diet! Substituting salt with spices can: lower your blood pressure and reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease, stroke, kidney stones and osteoporosis.

Join Annetta Jones, Extension Educator, HHS of Purdue Extension at Sunset Hill County Park on Wednesday July 18th at 10:00 am as she teaches you how to Spice Up Your Life.
