Sunshine, blue skies, warm temps and no school can only mean one thing – it’s time for summer camp! The Portage Township YMCA offers a safe and caring environment where kids and teens have fun, learn new skills, get outdoors, make friends and make memories.

Our trained camp counselors are excited to inspire and lead the “No Bummer Summer Camp” to a new level.

Spending the summer at camp is not only a valuable and safe experience for youth, it’s also important to their personal development. Camp helps youth develop social skills and decision-making skills, and learn from new experiences.

• Youth experience “unstructured” playtime that they normally don’t have at home or school, thus learning how to become independent, make smart choices, solve problems and work with others.
  
• The experience of trying and learning new things, gives youth confidence and helps them develop healthy life-long habits.
  
• At camp youth are cared for and given guidance, and feel a part of a community, allowing them to feel comfortable being themselves.
  
• Youth learn from other campers and counselors, and make new friends to share it all with.

The Portage Township YMCA’s “No Bummer Summer Camp” provides exciting and educational summer camp options that appeal to both parents and kids including: Extended Care – starting at 6:30 a.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m., Sack Lunches Provided June 8 thru July 30, Annual Summer Day Camp Olympics, Weekly Field Trips Include – Lincoln Park Zoo, Fair Oaks Farm, Navy Pier’s Children’s Museum, Railcats Day Game and many more.

The Portage Township YMCA programs are affordable experiences for families, with financial assistance available to send any child to camp this summer.

“No Bummer Summer Camp” is for children entering Kindergarten through 8th grade. Camp is held at the Portage High School West from June 7 through July 30 with the remaining 3 weeks of camp held at the Portage Township YMCA.

This year, the YMCA celebrates the 125th Anniversary of Camping at the YMCA. The Portage Township YMCA will join the more than 2,000 day camps and more than 300 resident camps across the country in celebrating this milestone.
