South Haven Elementary Students Earn “Young Citizen Award”

South-Haven-ElementaryOn Friday, April 5th, two outstanding South Haven Elementary students were awarded the “Young Citizen Award” sponsored by Portage Exchange Club. Katrina Partlow and Cheyla Kyle were selected from the 73 students attending 5th grade at South Haven. Both girls were surprised during a ceremony with their fellow students, teachers and parents present.

These two young ladies were chosen because of their dedication to their studies, their compassion for their fellow students and their efforts to make South Haven a better learning community. Mrs. Burch, Katrina’s teacher, spoke at the ceremony saying that Katrina is an academically driven student. She is active in the community, as well as, Girl Scouts and has good leadership skills. Mrs. Warne, Cheyla’s teacher, said she has set a good example for others in the school, always does her personal best and has excellent grades. Both girls were also said to be respectful and have shown a great deal of responsibility.

The girls each received a framed certificate and their names will be engraved on a plaque to be displayed at the school.
