South Haven Elementary School Hosts Pajamarama

South Haven Elementary had their Title I Parent Involvement Night, Pajamarama, on October 21, 2010. Title I students in grades K-2 were invited to a night of “Reading Fun.”

Students were able to participate in six different activities at the following centers:

Ira Sleeps Over: Mrs. Doyle, a first grade teacher, read the story, Ira Sleeps Over.

“BANG!” Mrs. White, our Title I assistant, had the students participate in language games. “Bang” is one of the popular games played in school that promotes phonemic awareness in a unique and fun way. Students were also given games that they can play at home that strengthen reading skills.

Reader’s Theater: Mrs. Snodgrass, our Title I Teacher, lead the groups in various plays. Students, parents, and student volunteers participated.

Make-and-Take: Mrs. Hritz, our EDK assistant, had seasonal materials available for the students to make bookmarks and reading door hangers.

Musical Chairs: Mrs. Ochall, our EDK Teacher, had the students play musical chairs to Nursery Rhymes.

Books, Books, Books: Mrs. Ampeliotis, our parent volunteer, had the students choose a free book to take home along with a gift bag and crayons. Students also had milk and cookies.

Throughout the night, names were drawn and students were able to choose a book from the center table. Mrs. Parsell, our Reading Resource Teacher, and Mr. Evans, our principal supervised this activity. All students went home with at least two free books.

Mrs. Bailey, our parent volunteer, took pictures of the event for our scrapbook.

Alexis Creviston and Alexis Jones, two of our fifth grade students, helped at all of the centers when needed.
