South Haven Club Members Plant 100 Trees to Mark Earth Week

BGC-SH-Tree-Planting-1Portage is bound to become a little more green, thanks to the effort made by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County-South Haven Unit’s Keystone and Torch Clubs by members. The youth members participated in the Portage TOWNSHIP Park Department’s 2nd Annual “Team Up 2 Clean Up” event on Saturday, April 21, 2012 and established a Tree Nursery at Haven Hollow Park. The members laid out rows and planted 100 tree seedlings given to the park by State Representative Chuck Moseley through the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources’ tree program.

Portage TOWNSHIP Parks Department hopes to sustain the nursery each year by bringing in new seedlings to replace those they relocate within the parks. “It was a pleasure having the South Haven Boys & Girls Club members at the park. They worked hard and were dedicated to making sure that all 100 seedlings were planted that day. It’s amazing what they accomplished in one morning. The tree nursery is beautiful!,” said Joy Lundstrom, TOWNSHIP Park Superintendent, “I value our partnership with Ron Ranta and the South Haven Boys & Girls Club members and look forward to achieving more great projects together in the future.”
