As a born again believer in Jesus Christ (or Yeshua Hamashiach if you're using his Hebrew name), there are some things that just don't matter to me as much anymore. Think of when you were a kid. Some things really mattered to you. Getting to watch Saturday morning cartoons, whether or not you got dessert after eating your dinner (or somehow sitting long enough at the table that your parents gave in), or whether or not the tooth fairy came and gave you a dollar. Those things really mattered. As an adult (and I say this having recently becoming an adult at age 24), the things that matter to you change.
Recently I was coming back to my apartment from work for some lunch, and some businessmen parked close by were looking at their car as if something had been done to it. I asked what happened and the owner of the car said that someone must have poured pop on the side of his car because it was all sticky and bubbly looking. I told him about some supposed vandalism that happened to my car where it appeared that someone must have carved with a knife into the side of my car door a Japanese character of some sort. Then again, maybe a car door just collided into the side of my car. Either way, it was clearly noticeably.
We walked over to my car to view the damage, and the other businessman spouted off, "Wouldn't you have loved to catch whoever did it in the act?" And, I thought about it. I have a fairly nice car for someone my age. A sleek black 2008 Kia Optima. It's not a Mercedes or BMW by any means, but it's a nice car. But, no, I don't think I would have liked to catch whoever did it in the act. At least not the way that this businessman was wanting to catch somebody in the act. Sure, if I caught whoever did it in the act, I would be upset. But, it's not a matter of life or death to me if my car has a Japanese character sketched into the door.
It just occurs to me that we care way more about our stuff than we should. I'm not at all trying to say I'm better than this businessman or that I'm better than anyone else. But, it's only because of Jesus Christ in my life that I desire not to do someone ill but to bless them. It's really cool! So, I just encourage you all to step into change, into Jesus Christ to change the way that you respond to circumstances in your life. Instead of trying in your own effort to be positive toward negative situations in your life, you will naturally respond with positivety. It doesn't happen all the time, but you will surprised.
