The Hobart Domino’s is here! Patrons began rising before the sun to hop in line at the Domino’s Pizza Hobart grand opening. The first 25 people in line won an entire year of free pizza, a treat that had many community members camped outside of the store before 6:00 a.m. As the time neared to the opening of the doors, the line of pizza lovers wrapped around the building.

The first person in line, Dalena Gimenez, claimed her spot around 5:50 a.m. While she didn’t expect to be first, she was determined to be there early enough to claim that year of free pizza.

“When I was growing up my grandma would get us Domino’s pizza every Friday night, so this brings back a lot of good memories,” Gimenez said. “We couldn’t have asked for a better day out here, I’m having a good time and making friends.”

Inside, the kitchen was stacked with excited employees prepping for the busy morning. One employee, Jasmine Whitaker, had just moved all the way from Texas and was looking to get involved with Domino’s once again.

“I’m excited, it’s like that episode of SpongeBob when they have the grand opening of the Krusty Krab and everyone is going crazy,” Whitaker said. “I love the people here, it’s all about teamwork and everyone has a great attitude.”

Jim Gronemann, the owner of the new Hobart Domino’s, is also the owner of 21 other Domino’s locations across Northwest Indiana. He began working at Domino’s as a delivery driver in 1984 and worked his way up to purchasing his first store in 1990.

“We had a location in Hobart a long, long time ago that closed down in the late 1980’s, and since then we’ve had tons of customers asking for us to come back,” Gronemann said. “I’ve never had a grand opening before where people have lined up at four o’clock in the morning, just seeing everyone’s excitement is the best part.”

Even Mayor Brian Snedecor came out to support the Domino’s grand opening. He led the charge by making the very first pizza of the day.

“I think it’s fantastic how they’ve come about opening the new store here in Hobart, I give them credit on their marketing plan and how they want to embrace the community. “I’m excited to be here today and open up this business, I think it will really add to this area and give the community everything they need at their disposal.”

For the rest of the week, the new Domino’s Hobart location will be selling a medium, one-topping pizza for only $3.99! Be sure to stop in and get yours!
