Senior Day at the YMCA was a Success

Senior Day at the YMCA was experienced by 80 participants Friday, February 4, 2011. This first ever event, gave seniors a place to participate in several screenings and classes. Healthy snacks such as Turkey, Vegetable and Wild Rice Soup and Orzo Pasta with Cherry Tomatoes, Capers and Lemons were enjoyed by all the participants. “Having a free, and open to the public event for the seniors is so helpful since the cost of health care is always on the rise,” said Wally Bulatovich. “Bone density, blood sugar & blood pressure screenings didn’t cost a penny.” Eye testing was performed by Lewyckyj-Taglia-Felton Eye Clinic with hearing aid information performed by Accurate Hearing Aid Service. Many attended the presentations put on by the fair. St. Mary Medical Center provided speakers on Joint Pain and Cardiovascular Health. Louise Thompson presented an array of information on Alzheimer’s disease.

The YMCA added some fun to the event by teaching beginner computers. Several participants made birthday, Valentine’s and get-well cards. Once the cards were complete many decided to get a little exercise with gentle yoga, Zumba gold and ballroom dancing.
