Schedule Class Trips and Family Outings with the Portage Community Historical Society

PCHS-MuseumThe Portage Community Historical Society is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to preserve the history of the city of Portage and share that history with the community. The Alton Goin museum, located across from Camelot Lanes on U.S. 6 in Portage, holds many antiques and exhibits relating to Portage history, including mini-replicas of parts of the city, Native American artifacts and reproduced clothing, one of the old Township fire engines, and Portage High School memorabilia.

Class trips and group functions are welcome!  For more information or to schedule a group tour, contact the Portage Community Historical Society at 219-762-8349. Hours are Friday and Saturday, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM, from March through mid-November.

The society also holds meetings every other month between February and October.  Programs are usually accompanied by refreshments and cookies. Please join us and learn more about the Portage area and historical preservation in general. We'd love to have you!

We'll also be holding our annual Christmas Open House on Saturday and Sunday, December 11 and 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The Open House will feature St. Nicholas, in keeping with the historical theme.

If you'd like to join, please attend one of our general meetings and ask a board member for more information. A year's membership is only $18 for an individual and $48 for a family. For more information about joining the Society, to view the meeting schedule, or to view some highlights from the museum online, visit the Portage Community Historical Society website.
