Runners Had a Great Time at the 2nd Annual Healthy Hustle

On Saturday June 1st, Porter Regional Hospital held its 2nd Annual Healthy Hustle 5K Run/Walk at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. Runners and walkers who took part in the 5K included staff members of Porter Regional Hospital, competition runners and parents accompanied by their children just looking for a nice stroll around sunset.

All proceeds obtained through the admissions fee for the race are to be used to benefit the Lakeshore PAWS organization. Lakeshore PAWS is a non-for-profit, volunteer run organization that helps to fight animal cruelty and find pets a loving home. Last year, the Health Hustle 5K split their profits between Lakeshore PAWS and the Porter County Cancer Society.

Patty Neely, head organizer of the Healthy Hustle and Supervisor of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at Porter Regional Hospital, said, "The Healthy Hustle was such a successful event last year…we just had to hold it again this year! We started the Health Hustle 5K last year as a kick off to the new Porter Hospital and we let all the employees and associates vote on what charity to benefit at this year’s run/walk. Since we were unable to hold the 5K at the hospital this year we chose Sunset Hill Farms this year because it is such a beautiful location."

Runners and walkers finished with a wide arrange of times; some runners finished in an astounding 15 minutes, while other walkers took their time to enjoy the scenes of the beautiful wooded cross county trails. The winner of every age group and the overall male and female runners were awarded a prize for their hard work. After the race, runners and walkers had the chance to talk, take pictures, eat snacks and enjoy their lovely sunny Saturday morning.

Once again, the Healthy Hustle 5K turned out to be a very successful event with a wonderful cause and most likely will continue next year.

The organizers of the 5K would like to thank the following sponsors for making the event possible: Radiologic Associates of Northwest Indiana, Northwest Indiana Cardiovascular Physicians, Wendy's for the donation of cups for the water stations and Sodexo for the donation of bottled water.
