Rock-In Lock-In Was a Success

Rock-In_lock-InOne hundred and forty-six participants filled the Portage Township YMCA on November 19 excited to spend quality time with old friends while making new ones. The Y collaborated with Real Life Community Church, to entertain 10-14 year olds from the community. Several of the event staff came from Real Life’s Youth Council while the rest were YMCA staff. Games, sports, movies, dinner, breakfast, D.J. and most importantly connections were enjoyed from 10 p.m.-7 a.m. Parents were assured that the Y is a safe environment in which children can learn practical and social skills and develop positive values. “Each of our organizations held lock-ins before, but having the Y open their doors and partner with us is great for the community, said youth minister, Rich Evans. “It provides a place for children to go and experience fun in a safe environment. It also gives the staff/volunteers time to build relationships with each other.” More events between the two organizations are planned for the upcoming year.
