Reused Playground Equipment Will Bring Joy to Kids in Haiti

Last year, the community of Valparaiso came to the aid of children who were victims of the Haiti 2010 earthquake by raising over $100,000. The city continues to help children in Haiti in a way that actually saves the city money. The city of Valparaiso is replacing the 15+ year old playground in Butterfield Fairgrounds Park and faced removal fees of over $1,000. This playground was destined to go to the scrap yard and landfill.

Instead, Kids Alive offered to remove the playground at no cost, refurbish it, and send it to Haiti where it will give great joy to the children devastated by the earthquake.

Al Lackey, President of Kids Alive said, "Once again, the community of Valparaiso has shown their compassion for the most vulnerable and will be sharing a great joy with children who have so little."

A team of volunteers worked to dismantle the playground on Friday, April 20, 2012. The playground equipment will then be refurbished and shipped to Haiti for installation at the Kids Alive Haiti site in Cap Haitien.
