Reeder’s Auto on Five Easy Steps to Help Make Your Drive More Relaxing

Jake and his employees at Reeder’s Auto Service Center in Portage are always looking out for their customers’ wellbeing, a courtesy that doesn’t end when you walk out the door.

In that spirit, Reeder’s recommends some tips on how to make the most of your drive, whether it be a long road trip to see family, a vacation destination, or just the daily commute. Everyone has been in the position of feeling stressed out and jittery on the road, and this can take away from what could otherwise be a relaxing cruise or serene adventure. Here are some tips you can take with you to make the most of your time with your car:

  1. This one is easy to remember and easy to do no matter what sort of drive you happen to be on: Breathe. If you are on a short commute or trip across town and are feeling the stress of the road, take the opportunity to take a deep, relaxing breath at a stoplight and collect yourself. If you’re on a longer trip, it doesn’t hurt to stop at a rest area or gas station and do this if necessary; science has shown that deep breathing can reduce stress.
  2. Leave ahead of time - This next one is not so easy to accomplish all the time, but manage this and you will find it much easier to enjoy the ride and take in the sights around you. We’ve all been in that situation and know it is no fun to feel the ticking clock at every stoplight or minor traffic jam. Just give yourself that wiggle room, and it will cut out a substantial source of stress on the road.
  3. Bring an audiobook or podcast that interests you and keeps your attention. There is so much audio material out there nowadays, there’s no excuse not to bring along some material. A lot of this material is free to consume, and will educate you and broaden your horizons while you drive – or just keep you awake and alert for those boring road trips.
  4. Don’t be too afraid to pull over. If you’re driving through a scenic route with beautiful sights, don’t be too hesitant about pulling over, to a safe spot obviously, and enjoying the environment you find yourself in. It goes without saying that you should have some idea of whether your surroundings are safe enough to do so but, provided they are, it can be relaxing to breathe the fresh air of somewhere you’ve never been before.
  5. Finally, make yourself a relaxing and enjoyable playlist you can fall back on. We’ve all been in that situation where the radio is driving you up a wall and you can feel that tension headache building. To avoid it or to bring yourself back to a more peaceful place, make sure you have a playlist on your phone that you can rely on in these moments and give your ears a little something more soothing to feast on. It could be classical music, electronic, jazz or just something ambient. However, if that isn’t your style, get some music you can sing along to and let some tension out.

Bring these five easy tips with you wherever you go and let Reeder’s help make your drive a more relaxing experience before your next tune-up at their Service Center!
